Shop for School Tax-Free before School Begins; Virginia Sales Tax Holiday is August 1–3
July 21, 2014

School supplies selling for $20 or less per item and articles of clothing, including footwear, selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax during the Virginia Sales Tax Holiday scheduled for Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 3.

Families with children in Prince William County Public Schools are encouraged to take advantage of these savings to prepare their students for the upcoming school year. Check your school’s Web site or call your school for a copy of the 2014–15 supply list. For a directory of schools, go to pwcs.edu and click on “Schools,” then select the directory by grade level.

Beginning July 28, SPARK, the Education Foundation for PWCS, will collect school supplies at the Kelly Leadership Center to help ensure that all student have the back-to-school basics they need to return to school ready to learn. The Kelly Leadership Center is located at 14715 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA 20112
Most-needed items include backpacks, 3-ring binders, tabbed dividers, folders with pockets, spiral notebooks, loose-leaf paper, colored pencils, pencil boxes/bags, tissues, hand sanitizer, marble composition books, ink pens (blue or black), No. 2 pencils, washable markers, crayons, highlighters, glue/glue sticks, rounded scissors, index cards, and graph paper.

Middle School Concussion Presentations

          The first Concussion Trainings for the 2014-2015 school year are scheduled for August 21, 2014 at 6:30 pm and August 28, 2014 at 6:30 pm.  Parents AND Students must attend to earn credit. Please be on time.  Doors will close promptly at 6:30 to begin the presentation. In order to try out for any sports you must have an updated sports physical (physical date must be after May 1, 2014) and a concussion training on file.

2014-2015 Back-to-School Night Dates

Back-to-School Night Dates will be:
6th grade-Monday, September 15, 2014 6:00-7:30 p.m.
7th grade- Tuesday, September 16, 2014 6:00-7:30 p.m.
8th grade- Thursday, September 18, 2014 6:00-7:30 p.m.

The Prince William County Public Schools Division is required to inform the community of a student’s right to a free, appropriate public education and the availability of programs and services, including a special education. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (Section 504) are federal laws that give the School Division certain responsibilities with respect to providing such educational programs to students with disabilities. Under the IDEA and Section 504, the School Division has the responsibility to actively and continuously identify, locate, and evaluate those children, infant to age 21, living in Prince William County who may be in need of special education and/or related services, or adaptations or accommodations to regular education services.

Summer Reading Lists 2014-2015

Remember to check out the summer reading lists! Click on the link below to view the recommended books by grade level.

Effective June 9, parents who currently have a Parent Portal user account will no longer be able to edit their contact information online. Changes can be made by contacting their school office.

The Parent Portal will display student grades and contact information for the 2013-14 school year until June 28, when it will go offline for yearly maintenance. The Parent Portal will be back online on July 14. Summer school grades will not be displayed on the Parent Portal.

Classroom Web pages for school year 2013-14 will be available to view during the summer. However, they will go offline August 11. New class Web pages for 2014-15 will go live in August (date to be announced) after student schedules have been finalized for the upcoming school year.

Parents who do not have a Parent Portal user account by June 9 must wait until August to establish their account. School Web sites will announce a date when parents can apply. View how to apply.
