Divisionwide Announcements
Parents, ask your children about their Explorer Passports
Explorer Passports will be delivered to schools on Friday, May 18. The Passports give children free admission to parks and attractions in Prince William County. Start off this Saturday at the HCHY EXPO at Pfitzner Stadium, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. View map of activities and schedule of events.
6th Grade Orientation
6th Grade Orientation will be held Thursday, May 24 at 6:30pm here at Potomac Middle School. The orientation is for rising 6th grade students. We hope to see you there.

8th Grade Awards Ceremony
The 8th grade awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. in the gymnasium. All students that have been cleared of all obligations will receive 2 tickets on Wednesday, June 13th. Obligations include textbooks, rentals, uniforms, principal's account and lunch money, etc... This is a ceremony in which the students are required to dress up and look nice. Young Men: collared dress shirt and tie, slacks and dress shoes. Young Ladies: dress, skirt set or pant suit. Additionally, please bring a picture ID, as we adhere to safety and security guidelines.
Hylton H.S. Rising Freshman Parent Breakfast
Hylton High School will host the Rising Freshman Parent Informational Breakfast on Saturday, June 2, 2012 from 9am - 11am. There will be a breakfast, a tour of the school, and listen to valuable informational presentations from each curriculum departments and many athletic teams. Parents will learn about Parent Portal and how it will work with School Fusion and will have the opportunity to meet the administrators and school guidance counselors. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to 703-580-4000 so that the school can adequately prepare. This event is for parents only. Freshman orientation for students will be held from 8:45am-Noon on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
New Sports Physical Form 2012-2013
Please be reminded that each student must have a middle school sports physical in order to try out for any sport. Middle School sports physicals must be dated after May 1, 2012 to be valid for participation in 2012-2013 team sports. Sports physicals are also needed for cheerleading, dance and step team. A sports physical is different from a school entrance exam. Additionally, please remember that Concussion Training is mandatory before trying out for a sport or other related activities. Schoolwide Incentive Trip Criteria
- Maintained a C or better in all classes
- Satisfactory in conduct & effort - No U's
- No more than 1 referral (The referral cannot result in OSS)
- No more than 1 unexcused absence or 7 excused absences (unless a medical emergency)
- No more than 2 unexcused tardies to school
Please note: Late notes time will not be accepted. - Some students may be excluded from this incentive because of family vacations, sports camps, or other activities, as determined by the Principal.
School Bus Conduct
Welcome students! Riding the school bus is a privilege. Improper conduct on the bus will result in that privilege being denied. Should a student need to ride a bus other than his/her regularly scheduled bus or need to disembark at a different stop, a parent must write a note requesting such a change. School buses may not be used as a form of personal transportation. They are to provide for the necessary transport of students. Exceptions to this rule may only be made by a Potomac Middle School Administrator. Notes should be taken to the office at the beginning of the school day to be approved by school Administration. Students are to wait at the bus stop in an orderly manner. While on the bus, each student is expected to sit and ride and ride and sit. You may also refer to your student's agenda for more information and expectations.
